Districts of Ladakh

Ladakh, also known as the land of high passes, is a region in northern India that is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and unique culture. This region, which is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, has recently been granted union territory status by the Indian government. Ladakh is divided into two districts, Leh and Kargil. 1. Leh District

Leh is the largest district in the Ladakh region, covering an area of 45,110 square kilometers. This district is located in the eastern part of Ladakh and is home to the famous Pangong Tso Lake. 2. Kargil District

Kargil is the second-largest district in Ladakh and covers an area of 14,086 square kilometers. This district is located in the western part of Ladakh and shares a border with Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Kargil is known for its rich history and is home to many historical sites, such as the Kargil War Memorial.

In addition to these two districts, Ladakh also has three sub-districts, which are:

1. Nubra

Nubra is a sub-district of Leh district and is located in the northern part of Ladakh. The sub-district is known for its sand dunes and double-humped camels.

2. Zanskar

Zanskar is a sub-district of Kargil district and is located in the southern part of Ladakh. This sub-district is known for its stunning landscape, which includes deep gorges, rivers, and snow-capped peaks.

3. Drass

Drass is a sub-district of Kargil district and is located in the western part of Ladakh. This sub-district is known for being the second coldest inhabited place in the world and is often referred to as the Gateway to Ladakh.
